The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) provides free nutrition education classes to food insecure and limited-resource families and youth in Montgomery County. EFNEP takes a hands-on approach to educate participants on improving their diet, better food resource management, food safety, and general nutrition principles.

EFNEP educators provide participants with helpful tips and tools on

  • Choosing more nutritious snacks/beverages for children
  • Planning and preparing healthy meals
  • Handling and storing foods safely
  • Preparing new foods and recipes
  • Comparing prices and saving on their food bill
  • Fun ways to improve physical activity in children

EFNEP workshops are taught as a series of 5-6 classes over several weeks.

To reach individuals who will benefit most from this program, EFNEP partners with schools, community centers, clinics, health and wellness centers, non-profit and faith-based organizations, and food distribution sites across the County to provide these classes.
