Corky root is caused by the fungus Pyrenochaeta lycopersici. Tomato plants affected with corky root may appear stunted and generally lack vigor.

Rain check is the many, tiny concentric cracks that form on the shoulder of the fruit and these small cracks can expand over time into unsightly scabs.

I have been seeing some ozone damage to cucurbits and oddly to tomatoes over the last 2 weeks or so, which is not unusual with the hot hazy conditions we are having. Ozone is the most common air pollutant in the eastern United States.

Black dot root rot found in high tunnel tomatoes

A root disease that is most commonly associated with potato has turned up on tomato in a high tunnel last week. This disease goes by the delightful name of black dot root rot. The causal agent is Colletotrichum coccodes, which also causes anthracnose fruit rot on tomato (sunken, water-soaked, circular lesions).

The recent discovery of Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) in a resistant tomato cultivar has raised concerns about the emergence of resistance-breaking variants. It is important for growers to closely monitor the situation while continuing to use resistant cultivars.
