Every family has special traditions and favorite family recipes.  This past spring, Maryland SNAP-Ed distributed copies of their newest book, A Family Recipe: A Tale of Tradition and Fun, which shares healthy family traditions from different cultures.  The book provided families the opportunity to think about their own traditions that they share as a family.

The book provided many opportunities for families to share their own traditions through SNAP-Ed programming.

Riverdale Elementary incorporated the book into a multicultural event held where families shared recipes with one another.

Families in Queen Anne's County were able to try traditional Carnitas from Mexico.  Another family member shared the Peruvian tradition of making ceviche, and another participant shared traditions that were passed down from their German heritage.

Several other schools are planning to collect family recipes from their students to create a school cookbook.

Have you read the book yet?  Here is a read aloud of the book.

As we move toward fall, continue to create and revive your own healthy family traditions. Check out the list of sample healthy traditions that we have for you and then make a list of healthy traditions that you want to do together as a family.
